Italian Family in the Heart of Leederville

Walk down Oxford Street, and you will find Shortlist, a cafe named after its short, carefully curated menu of delicious food and drink. Operated by Italian mum Silvana Di Chiera and her three daughters, you will experience the love, care and flavour that Italian families are renowned for.

Experts at doing simple food well, crowd winter favourites include Tuscan bean soup and prosciutto and bocconcini rolls. Shortlist also serves Victoria Park’s Antz In Ya Pantz coffee and the famous Ox & Rabbit brownies.

You can’t visit without trying Silvana’s favourite dish, the newly released zucchini corn fritters (a recipe that was created by her daughters.) The fritters are stacked in between layers of smashed avocado, tzatziki and hummus, topped with a perfectly poached gg, salsa and rocket.

The daughters are also the brains behind the taco bowl and Philly cheese-steak menu items. They love researching food trends and often formulate new additions to incorporate into the drool-worthy menu.

The close-knit family love spending time together both at work and at home doing what they love, cooking! “The girls are as passionate about food as I am,” says Silvana.

Silvana says working at Shortlist isn’t much different to cooking in their home kitchen. They love making Italian sauce together to top on pasta steaks, mixing and reducing fresh tomatoes, garlic and chillis. Being a smaller café, Shortlist is able to produce fresh homemade Italian food including Sicilian cannoli and pasta.

“It is just a really nice atmosphere to sit down and enjoy food…we know everyone by name and regulars orders. I don’t think I could do it without my daughters.”
